Sejarah Pembagian Wilayah Sumatera Barat
- Pembagian wilayah Provinsi Sumatera Barat telah mengalami beberapa kali perubahan sepanjang sejarah. Perubahan ini di dasari oleh berbagai faktor, seperti perkembangan administratif, pertumbuhan penduduk, dan perubahan batas wilayah.
Berikut ini adalah sejarah pembagian wilayah Provinsi Sumatera Barat:
Masa Hindia Belanda
- Pada tahun 1825, wilayah Sumatera Barat di bagi menjadi tiga afdeling, yaitu Padang, Pariaman, dan Tanah Datar.
- Pada tahun 1840, afdeling Padang di bagi menjadi dua, yaitu Padang dan Manindjau.
- Pada tahun 1841, afdeling Tanah Datar di bagi menjadi dua, yaitu Tanah Datar dan Agam.
Masa Republik Indonesia
- Pada tahun 1945, wilayah Sumatera Barat di bagi menjadi tiga keresidenan, yaitu Keresidenan Padang, Keresidenan Bukittinggi, dan Keresidenan Sawahlunto.
- Pada tahun 1950, keresidenan dihapus dan diganti dengan provinsi.
- Pada tahun 1957, Provinsi Sumatera Barat di bagi menjadi empat kabupaten, yaitu Kabupaten Padang, Kabupaten Pariaman, Kabupaten Tanah Datar, dan Kabupaten Agam.
- Pada tahun 1958, Kabupaten Padang dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu Kota Padang dan Kabupaten Padang Pariaman.
- Pada tahun 1999, Kabupaten Agam dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu Kabupaten Agam dan Kabupaten Pasaman.
- Pada tahun 2003, Kabupaten Pasaman dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu Kabupaten Pasaman dan Kabupaten Pasaman Barat.
- Pada tahun 2007, Kabupaten Tanah Datar dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu Kabupaten Tanah Datar dan Kabupaten Sijunjung.
- Pada tahun 2013, Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan dan Kabupaten Mentawai.
